- Nike values the creativity and individuality of the 1/1 collective, and encourages you to enjoy the 1/1 website, and to freely express yourself here through words and video and imagery, subject to our Terms and Conditions.
Under these Terms and Conditions, 1/1 users are asked to refrain from posting material that potentially violates copyrights, trademarks, or the intellectual property rights of other individuals. This category includes footage from TV shows, movies, cartoons, and sporting events.
We respect the privacy and publicity rights of others, including celebrities, professional athletes, and individuals who have not consented to having their image posted in the gallery of our website. For this reason, we ask that 1/1 users refrain from posting images of these individuals.
Nike will remove images that are inappropriate in other ways. Flaming insults are prohibited, and will be removed. We will also remove content that is offensive, libelous, defamatory, indecent, harmful, harassing, intimidating, threatening, hateful, abusive, vulgar, obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, or offensive in a sexual, racial, cultural, or ethnic context.
Nike apologises for any inconvenience presented by our enforcement of our Terms and Conditions.
- What date does the competition close?
- May 18 2008. You cannot submit work after this date, so make sure you complete your portfolio by then.
- Can I delete work I have uploaded?
- Yes. Work can be deleted after you’ve submitted it to the portfolio. Simply use the delete function in your portfolio. Get here by logging in and viewing your portfolio.
- Can I delete work I have submitted for judging?
- Yes. But you could be deleting work the judges like. So make sure you’re happy with your work before the judging deadline.
- Do I have to upload a football themed piece?
- No. The football gallery spot is there so artists who already have football themed work have a place to show it. Your work will only be judged on your four main pieces and your 1/1 manifesto.
- Why can I only upload 4 pieces plus football piece?
- We only want your best work, the pieces you’re most proud of and really show your talent. We feel the best way to do this is to limit the amount of work you submit. It also enables the 1/1 judges to fully assess all the work submitted.
- What are tags, and how do I use them?
- Tags help people find your work through our search functionality. Your tag could describe the type of work (graffiti, illustration, photography), location or genre. Or it could describe the content of the piece (blue, ocean, waves ).
How the competition works
- What happens after the closing date?
- All shortlisted artists will be contacted on or before the closing date of 18 May. The number of shortlisted artists will depend on the quality of the submissions and the number of artists Nick Knight and SHOWstudio selects. Shortlisted artists will be contacted in person and invited to create their ART OF FOOTBALL piece. The 11 best pieces will be chosen to be exhibited at Basel with Nick Knight and the 1/1 Associates. Finally one artist’s work will be immortalised by Nike onto a brand new limited edition series of Nike Dunks.
- How will I collaborate with a studio in London if I live outside the UK?
- Nike will make provisions to ensure the collaboration works.
- I don’t speak English. Will that count against me? How will I collaborate with someone who doesn’t speak the same language as me?
- A lack of English is not an issue. Nike will make provisions to ensure you can still participate.
- Who are the judges?
- The 1/1 Curator, Nick Knight, will manage the judging process through SHOWstudio.
- Will the Associates be judging too?
- No. The Associates set the tone, act as inspiration and exhibit as part of 1/1 in Basel. But they will not judge submitted work.
- When and how will the successful artists be notified?
- The successful artists will be notified by email. So ensure we have your up-to-date email address.
